At the Institute of Human Genetics we built one of the first Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) platforms in Germany, pioneering NGS-based diagnostics and research. Our platform is constantly evolving and includes a computing cluster, a full-scale bioinformatics analysis pipeline, an in-house web based variant evaluation system, and a large collection of sequencing data. We are now building an additional NGS-infrastructure that is being certified for patient care.
For our Bioinformatics/IT group are looking for a:
Bioinformatician (f/m/x) / IT specialist (f/m/x)
Run data analyses, for routine diagnostics and research
Work on our NGS pipelines and on the in-house variant evaluation system
You will be involved in OMICS research projects and run or develop new analysis pipelines/tools, according to your attitudes
Data management, user support
Administration of our clusters, at the Klinikum rechts der Isar (Trogerstraße) and at the Helmholtz Munich (Neuherberg)
A degree (Master or preferably PhD) in (Bio-)Informatics, Mathematics, Physics, Electronic Engineering or related fields
Familiarity with big-data analysis on computing clusters or in the cloud. Prior bioinformatics experience is an advantage
Technical competencies at least on a basic level:
Relational databases, SQL language. Knowledge of mySQL or PostgreSQL preferred
Linux system administration and scripting
Software development, object-oriented programming
Proficiency in English, spoken and written
Ability to think out of the box and to connect the dots, to engage in new topics with critical thinking; have wide interests beyond work topics; have an open, collaborative, propositive team spirit, be comfortable in an international working environment
Desirable qualifications:
Technical skills: C/C++, Perl, Java, Python, Web Development (HTML5, JS, Perl/CGI, PHP)
Experience in computational statistics / data science / ML (R, Pyhton)
Basic knowledge of the terms of genetics/genomics
Basic knowledge of German or additional languages are an advantage
